Tom Demar started performing professionally in Pittsburgh, PA onstage and on camera, where he joined SAG-AFTRA. At Penn State he studied classical and contemporary theater, music and dance, then moved to New York City and dived into theater labs at Ensemble Studio Theater as an actor, writer and director, while performing original music showcases at a jazz club. His first audition for The Actors Studio admitted him as a finalist and there he connected with teaching legends Penny Allen and her husband Charlie Laughton. He performed a lead role in his first Equity production in upstate New York. On one fateful day Tom was called back to audition for Francis Copolla as Jack Kerouac's namesake Sal Paradise to be considered for a film version of the classic novel On The Road.

Inspired by On The Road, Tom took an opportunity to travel, first

throughout Europe, living in Italy, France and Spain for a year (honing his conversational Italian, French and German). Then he drove across the U.S. from New York to Los Angeles and connected with AFI, CalArts, USC and UCLA directors and writers, playing roles in films screened at festivals and theaters like Sundance, DGA Fest, Laemmle Theaters, Mann's Chinese Theater, LA Live, Krikorian and the Downtown Independent. He also continued acting on L.A.-area stages and continued to hone his craft, studying with esteemed London coach Giles Foreman (the Drama Centre), film director Dan Ireland, RSC and RADA alum and film actor Morgan Sheppard, and improv and mime intensives.

In 2024, Tom will appear in supporting lead roles in new features BITTERSWEET (by former TIFF Discovery Award winner Steven Martini, starring Steven, William Baldwin and Andrew Leeds), and as an Armenian hit man in THE RUFFIAN. Tom has read for many casting professionals through the SAG Foundation as he continues to expand his network.

Tom Demar is a niche actor specializing in characters in crises: identity crisis, relationship crisis, financial crisis, existential crisis, life-or-death crisis...for drama and comedy film, television and stage (contemporary and classical). SAG-AFTRA, AEA
