Tom Demar is a niche actor specializing in characters in crises: identity crisis, relationship crisis, financial crisis, existential crisis, life-or-death crisis...for drama and comedy film, television and stage (contemporary and classical).
He started performing professionally in Pittsburgh, PA onstage and on camera, where he joined SAG-AFTRA. At Penn State and Point Park Conservatory he studied classical and contemporary theater, music and dance, then moved to New York City and dived into theater labs acting, writing and directing, while performing original music showcases at a jazz club. He was accepted as a finalist at The Actors Studio and there he connected with teaching legends Penny Allen and her husband Charlie Laughton. He also performed a lead role in his first Equity production.
Tom took an opportunity to travel, first throughout Europe for a year, then drove across the U.S. from New York to Los Angeles, and connected with AFI, USC, CalArts and UCLA filmmakers. He played roles in films screened at festivals and theaters such as Sundance, DGA Fest, Laemmle Theater, Mann's Chinese Theater, LA Live, Krikorian and the Downtown Independent. He continues acting on L.A.-area stages, and currently studies with esteemed London coach Giles Foreman.
In 2024-2025, Tom will appear in supporting lead roles in new features BITTERSWEET (by former TIFF Discovery Award winner Steven Martini, starring Steven, William Baldwin and Andrew Leeds), and as an Armenian hit man in THE RUFFIAN. Tom reads for casting professionals through the SAG Foundation and continues to expand his network. SAG-AFTRA, AEA.
